Biography of Matyr baba Mazari

After the soviet invasion, Mazari returned to Afghanistan and participated in battles in Charkent, Sholgar, Chantal and other northern regions. During the first years of the jehad, he lost many members of his family.
Mazari was one of the founders of the Islamic Wahdat Party of Afghanistan . In the first Congress he was elected leader of the Central Committee and in the second Congress, Secretary_General of the Wahdat Party. Baba Mazari's initiative led to the creation of the Jonbesh-e-Shomal (Northern Movement), in which the country's most significant military force joined ranks with the Mujahideen.
He became the head of the Wahdat party (Unity party). As the party's leader, he allied himself with Masood and Dostum prior to the fall of Kabul to the Mujahideen in April of 1992. After Kabul's fall, his party established control over areas to the west and southwest of the capital. In 1993, Mazari developed differences with Masood and Rabbani. He, then, allied himself with Hekmatyar and Dostum. In 1995, facing an offensive by Masood, he surrendered to Taliban, then He was killed in captivity soon after on March 13, 1995. His body was carried to Mazar and buried there.
